We are starting our neighborhood spotlight series with a neighborhood we know very well (and often find ourselves stopping by for kombucha and seasoned nuts & sesame sticks at The Pantry): it's Rumford!

Rumford is a lovely neighborhood in East Providence, Rhode Island. It's a relatively affordable option for the Ocean State. The neighborhood is quaint, there is a very low crime rate and while it's very family friendly, there are many younger people moving to the area because of it's proximity to the East Side of Providence. According to Trulia, more than 70% of Rumford locals agree on the following: the area is dog friendly, you do need a car but parking is easy, it's comfortable to walk alone at night here, children play outside, most yards are well kept, and the neighborhood has plenty of Holiday Spirit!

The median sale price for a 3 bedroom, single-family home in Rumford in 2021 as of April 26th is about $331,000. The tax rate in East Providence is $20.02 per $1,000 with the option of taking advantage of a 15% homestead exemption. For reference, a $300,000 property in Rumford would have $5,105 in real estate taxes after the homestead exemption. Rumford's school system has very good ratings for its elementary school, Mryon J Francis; while East Providence High School gets mixed reviews - but a perk of being so close to Providence is that you're also nearby to some fantastic colleges, such as Brown University and RISD (Rhode Island School of Design).

Residents of Rumford have plenty of shopping and restaurants at their fingertips. There are the shopping strips in the center of East Providence where you can find Stop & Shop, Shaw's, HomeGoods, Planet Fitness, Work Out World and more! There are the huge Seekonk center shopping plazas that border East Providence about 7 minutes away where you'll find tons of fast food and restaurants, Irish pubs, Target, Starbucks, Pet stores, Best Buy, TJ Maxx and HomeGoods, Walmart, Dick's Sporting Goods, and much more. 5 minutes away just over the bridge (which has a bike lane for bikers and runners) is the charming East Side of Providence where you'll find plenty of local shops, craft restaurants and bars, parks, weekly farmer's markets, and organic grocers like Whole Foods. You'll also find a select few big brand shops in Wayland Square like West Elm and Lululemon.

Rumford itself is home to a tiny, charming strip where you can eat fantastic food and drink craft cocktails at locally owned Avenue N. You can grab lunch or select produce, local meat products, and other local food and drink products at their daytime shop, The Pantry! And you can buy freshly made (it's really well made) bread, breakfast pastries, and delicious hot beverages at Seven Stars Bakery where they have a café for you to sit and enjoy everything while you read a book or get work done.

There's a great Asian market, a Middle Eastern market, an Italian market, and a number of small Portuguese restaurants. You can buy local seafood (and raw local honey) at Digger's Catch, and there are plenty of other small restaurants in the city! You can also enjoy Crescent Park which is located in the Riverside area of East Providence and is on the water, the kids can visit sky zone trampoline park and you can enjoy a Friday night at the Comedy Connection where some awesome comedians have performed and perform weekly! Lastly, there are countless events and concerts, hosting the likes of Ziggy Marley to Halsey, at EP's Bold Point Park on the Providence River!

A perfect location for any type of commuter or person who enjoys being near to things to do and the beautiful Rhode Island coast!
